Project Brief

Design the Australasian issue of Typographic. A visual essay illustrating outstanding examples of current typography from Australasia.

Project Innovation / Need

As this was an Australasian issue, Frost* made a list of various studio’s work that the designers look upon to be inspired by when exploring the typography in Australasia. The lists of studios were then contacted, asking to be featured in the publication. As Australia is known as the land down under, the design played upon this concept with upside down type, designing the 6 as an upside down 9, enhancing the 69th issue being an Australasian issue. Frost* also used big, bold typography and typefaces used for the body text being designed by a New Zealander type foundry (Klim Type Foundry).

Design Challenge

One of the main challenges Frost* were faced with was within the time difference and the physical distance between the studio and where the publication was being printed, in the UK. Contacting all the studios and getting them to send Frost* some work was a fun but challenging task, as it is time consuming and the extra time wasn’t allowed at first as this idea only came about in the concept stages.

Sustainability

Frost* highly stands for sustainability, using only recyclable paper in the studio and carbon neutral paper.
