Project Brief

Create a signage and wayfinding system, and branding graphics for the new CBA Campus at Darling Walk. This involved the development of an integrated system, which adds depth and dynamism to the CBA Darling Walk experience. The signage is part of a holistic signage and branding solution that is infused in all elements of the building.

Project Innovation / Need

The signage and branding is reflective of CBA’s new working practice and philosophy; a constant state of flux. Signage was introduced into the lobbies of both campuses and extends into the Level One Club Houses and Atriums.

All signage is integrated to reflect the overall design objectives of the buildings and to achieve a 5 Green Star rating.

A real-time Digital Wall was designed, communicating the environmental initiatives of Darling Walk. Both engaging and innovative, it conveys key information about CBA’s efforts to minimise its impact on the environment and also encourages staff engagement and positive change.

Branding is infused in all elements of the campus, utilising dynamic tools that communicate the brand values and add visual interest. These tools serve to establish a sense of place and complement the interior scheme while serving a practical and intuitive wayfinding function within the buildings.

Design Challenge

The signage and branding at Darling Walk was designed to be reflective of CBA’s new working practice and philosophy; a constant state of flux. The graphics work with CBA’s progressive focus, which includes innovative technological approaches, and distinct and flexible work spaces that encourage interaction and collaboration. They needed to define zones and establish a sense of place as well as serving a practical and intuitive wayfinding function within an activity-based working environment.

Sustainability

A dynamic digital wall makes an impressive statement about the Commonwealth Bank’s commitment to the environment – greeting visitors and staff alike with real-time statistics on the green performance of its new Darling Walk Campus. The intent is to create positive change by engaging staff & communicating behavioral change.

This award recognises the intersection of communication design and the built environment, and is concerned with the visual aspects of wayfinding, communication identity and brands, information design and shaping the idea of place. Consideration given to clarity of communication and the matching information style to audience.
