Project Overview

5 year old SOLID RACKS Pty Ltd is a global leader of radical, innovative storage and building solutions that empowers the end user by providing freedom and flexibility to efficiently and rapidly organise and interchange any space within minutes.

The SOLID INFINITY SYSTEM has unique design capabilities, spatial implications and advantages; It addresses over 60 different global markets and has the ability to change current building and installation practices and standards as we know them.

Organisation

SOLID RACKS Pty Ltd

Team

Managing Directors Trevor and Nicolle Drake first met at work in 1981. Nicolle was the Design Draftswoman and Trevor was the Factory Foreman at a small shop fitting company in Brookvale, NSW.

Trevor, a shipwright by trade and Nicolle an interior & graphic design graduate, married in 1983 and later established Wood Appeal Pty Ltd in 1989.

Wood Appeal Pty Ltd is a multi-award winning custom joinery and Design Company that is Australian family owned and operated.

SOLID RACKS was founded on Sydney's Northern Beaches by Trevor & Nicolle when they moved their family to Manly Beach 10 years ago and purchased their son Christopher his first surfboard.

Born from “Accidental Entrepreneurs” and a growing market need for strong, reliable surf & sport storage systems, SOLID Racks are World leaders in ergonomic and innovative storage solutions and are endorsed by World Champion Surfers, Olympians, Sporting Legends and Entrepreneurs across the globe, who enthusiastically endorse their SOLID products.

Upon the launch of the very first SOLID Racks product through Quiksilver in September 2007, they were encouraged to develop a range of SOLID storage solutions.

At the beginning of 2008, the team at SOLID Racks implemented a dedicated SOLID Research & Development division within their manufacturing plant in Sydney, Australia, after being inundated with requests from consumers wanting individual SOLID storage solutions for their homes and retail spaces.

In October 2009 SOLID released an arsenal of 40 radical, storage solutions that stoked the World Surfing Industry.

In September 2010, SOLID Racks unveiled the much anticipated international patent-pending SOLID INFINITY SYSTEM which has metamorphosed into a new International Patent Pending Building System.

Project Brief

The SOLID INFINITY SYSTEM is a non-static, systemised storage and building solution that is completely flexible and interchangeable. This new Building System addresses and resolves numerous issues including the skilled trade shortage, ageing population, mining boom, flood prone and rising sea level areas; as well as decreasing current installation times by at least 50% and has the possibility of being adopted globally.

The SOLID INFINITY SYSTEM enables anyone to “drop and lock” furniture or heavy objects onto internal or external walls OR ceilings, enabling faster and easier installation of cantilevered objects and componentry than under current building standards and practices.

It provides various cost-saving solutions for insurance companies, government housing, medical, retail, aged care and retro-fitting.

The SOLID INFINITY SYSTEM will become an immediate floating stair wall for construction sites and even a vehicular conversion system; from weekday trade tool-boxes into a campervan with beds and table for the weekend warrior… within minutes!

SOLID RACKS is currently producing a range of modular furniture systems for 250kg+ fire-places and flat screen TV’s, Hard Drives and Monitors that can be clipped and locked off walls within seconds which instantaneously revolutionises these markets allowing for rapid, unrestricted installation that was previously impossible.

Project Innovation / Need

• Dramatically improves speed at which furniture is installed onsite:
• The larger the job, the greater the time and pecuniary savings
• Cantilevered furniture can be completely installed within minutes.
• Limits damage done to both walls and furniture
• Doesn’t require major or skilled trades for installation
• Replacement of furniture takes seconds without any new wall penetration
• Alleviates the need for levelling kickers and scribing to uneven floor surfaces
• Allows for easy floor cleaning and sterilisation for hospitals and medical
• Panels are WATERPROOF, light weight, acoustic, kind on tools and easy to level
• Provides 'Universal Access' for wheelchairs and the disabled
• Addresses water damage; flood-prone and rising sea level areas
• Allows for commercial walls to interlock at the floor, ceiling and other walls making for fast efficient installation of non-structural partition and semi-solid walls.

Perfect all types of architectural applications and fabricated for rapid Installation. Conveniently flat packs for storage and freight and is purpose designed to economise Australian and International building and construction requirements.

Design Challenge

After 25 years of specialising in custom joinery and shopfitting, upon the development of this unique innovation, it became obvious that the SOLID INFINITY SYSTEM had infinite, universal applications.

For example; if a kitchen cabinet sustained damage due to neglect the SOLID INFINITY SYSTEM provides immediate rapid removal and replacement of independent components, negating the need to replace the entire kitchen while cabinets remain tight together and square to walls with no levelling of feet or continual wobbling, unlike existing pre-fab kitchen packages.

It further alleviates the likelihood of extensive water damage from a burst pipe, dishwasher, washing machine, bath or flood, due to its capacity to cantilever extremely heavy objects away from potential hazards.

Even after bench tops and tiling have been completed, the SOLID INFINITY SYSTEM allows simple and effortless removal of individual componentry providing a fast efficient solution by simply unscrewing the patented bracket fixtures from inside the damaged cabinet. Removal and replacement takes minutes which provides a further saving in labour and materials and alleviating any surface re-penetration.

Sustainability

The SOLID INFINITY SYSTEM™ is UV stable for external structural installation, to transform a static building into a green, energy efficient structure through attaching plants to the outside of the tallest skyscrapers or demountable structures to apply environmental applications such as: water-tanks, planter-boxes and solar panels creating an artificial ecosystem as well as providing a sense of permanency.

The SOLID INFINITY SYSTEM responds economically to local contexts and all associated parameters and can be painted to camouflage or accentuate its architectural appearance or environment. It can be polyurethaned in any colour and include corporate logos, laser engraving or digital imagery if desired, creating a safe and stimulating work-place or retail environment. Walls can have custom perforations according to any mural, product, LED light source or 3D effect required.

The SOLID INFINITY SYSTEM is made from light-weight, UV stable, thermal, acoustic, water-proof polymer which is recyclable, self-extinguishing, non-hazardous during the manufacturing process, non-toxic and benign when installed. We are world leaders in the discovery that this element has demonstrates Linear Elastic Strength which enabled our R&D to invent the first system of this kind with built-in suspension.

The SOLID INFINITY SYSTEM pending patent can also be manufactured from numerous other materials including steel if Ultimate Tensile Strength is required which would ultimately support a 40 foot container off the side of a building!
