Project Brief

The Nuptial Pendants were designed as a sustainable piece of lighting, aiming to be involved in a lasting personal relationship with their owner, fostered by the human characteristics that this piece possesses. These pieces hope to play an important roll in the life of their owner, thus becoming sustainable instead of disposable.

The Nuptial Pendants were designed as an expression of the beautiful intimacy that exists between two people that have been together for a very long time. Like an elderly couple that have spent their lives together, just as in love as the day they met. When two people commit themselves to one another completely, this is a unique bond.

Project Innovation / Need

The Nuptial Pendants are part of a series of works called 'Objects That Remind us of Ourselves'.

This series aims to work against consumption by creating objects that have the ability to forge a long-term relationship with their user. 'Objects That Remind us of Ourselves' are designed based on universally important human relationships. As an emblem of these important relationships these objects aim to take on some of their importance, reminding the user of their loved ones, and eventually becoming an integral part of the family.

The Nuptial Pendants are designed based on any long-term partnership or marriage, reminding the user of the unique bond that they share with that one important individual. This object becomes a life long reminder of that relationship, an object that will hopefully enjoy the same longevity as the relationship.

Design Challenge

The Nuptial Pendants were a challenging object to manufacture in Australia. The two lobes come together in a crisp fold, a difficult detail to achieve in a large cotton object.

Sustainability

The Nuptial Pendant are made from powder coated steel and organic cotton.
