Project Overview

This work is an 2.4 meter hand made signage for the Semi-Permanent conference, celebrating the new Semi-Permanent brand. Our aim is to effectively create a memorable and meaningful experience by using this display as a design intervention - a piece that is environmentally responsible and will inspire a crowd of creatives to engage with the new SP logo.

Project Brief

Semi-Permanent represents a unique assembly of creative leaders, emerging talents, experts and enthusiasts. It’s where connections are made through sharing conversations, opinions and ideas on the world of creativity.

Our client approached us wanting to create a neon signage display to showcase the brand. However, we questioned whether a neon sign had enough cut-through to the public. So we’ve created a two and a half metre hand-made artwork.

The piece created curiosity and intrigue, inviting the audience to engage and celebrate the new Semi-Permanent brand. The choice of creating a web-like detail emphasises the brand’s proposition - coming together to form one movement - a celebration of diversity and unity linked by creativity and imagination.

Project Innovation/Need

By utilising an unconventional way of using the materials such as nails and EL wire, lead to a discovery, surprise or a shifting perspective that in turn produces pleasure and understanding from the acquisition of new knowledge. The mastery that comes from constructive experience leads to strength which ultimately results in contentment and sense of self balance. It is in exploring that an individual is able to be creative, and in being creative that the individual discovers the self.

With consideration of the creative demographic present at the Semi Permanent conference, this approach refers to ideo-pleasure which pertains to the people's values. This include personal aspirations.

User Experience

Play is inherently attractive, provides freedom from time and diminishes the consciousness of self. Beauty, fun and pleasure all work together to produce enjoyment, a state of positive effect. It is essential to people's curiousity and ability to learn.

Positive emotions broaden people's thought-action repertoires, encouraging them to discover novel lines of though or action. Interest, for instance, creates the urge to explore. Similarly, exploration increases knowledge and psychological complexity.

• Look - the aesthetics of the SP display as the main source of inspiration by constructing a visual performance.
• Explore - audience at the event discover new terrains of speculation. With a joyful sense of discovery, it investigates the interplay between the work and audience
• Touch - allow the audience to physically and cognitively understand the work
• Engage - occupation, attraction or involvement of the audience's interest or attention

The 2.4 meter displayed allowed consumers to touch, look and explore the work. This has created an memorable and meaningful experience with snap shots of the SP logo artwork flooding social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram and blogs.
